At the State –ESAV Community Language Schools Conference in July this year where both Political Parties were represented we requested that consideration be given to increasing funding to community languages schools in the lead up to the 2014 State Election.
Community Languages Australia – Ethnic Schools Association of Victoria wrote to both political parties in October this year seeking an election to commitment supporting community languages schools.
Over that period we have met with members of both parties seeking their support.
To date we have received a written commitment from the Liberal party (attached)
If a Liberal Napthine Government is re elected it has committed to provide ;
- an addition $20 per capita for students raising funding to $210 per student
- expanding the per capita funding to 4 year olds.
At present there has been no statement on a commitment from the ALP .
At the time of writing we are in dialogue with the ALP and will continue to seek an election commitment.
If this is forthcoming we will inform members .
